- Trained in LVAD dependent residents: At New Life Care Home, we are properly trained and have the experience necessary to provide care for LVAD residents. The Thoratec HeartMate II® LVAD is an implanted device that is designed to restore proper blood flow to patients with a wide range of advanced stage
heart failure. When the proper care is administrated, patients with an LVAD are able to live a full and satisfying lifestyle and enjoy many of the activities and pleasures that they were able to enjoy previously. We provide the proper care for patients with the Thoratec Heartmate II LVAD including: 24 hour monitoring of the patient and making sure the LVAD is operating properly by changing the batteries, charging them, and keeping track of the controller settings. Observing for signs of infection at the driveline site and weekly changing the sterile dressing that covers the abdominal tubing. Encouraging proper fluid intake and the necessary amount of exercise specifically required for LVAD residents.
