We provide the proper care for patients with the Thoratec Heartmate II LVAD including: 24 hour monitoring of the patient and making sure the LVAD is operating properly by changing the batteries, charging them, and keeping track of the controller settings. Observing for signs of infection at the driveline site and weekly changing the sterile dressing that covers the abdominal tubing. Encouraging proper fluid intake and the necessary amount of exercise specifically required for LVAD residents.

She is the caregiver of a patient of mine who is ventilator dependent and quadriplegic secondary to a rare degenerative neurological disorder.
